Service Requirements
To all SMCS
Students and Parents:
Community service is an important
tool to help the students grow as individuals as well as in our
community. Our hope is
that your community service hours will balance the emphasis on
academic achievement,
with experiences that benefit others who need help, and the student.
Service means contributing to
your community to make life better for others, especially the disadvantaged.
Service neither seeks nor accepts
payment of any kind. Service can include planting trees, cleaning up the
river or creeks,
volunteering at elementary schools, or
building houses for the
poor, etc.
Requirements:

All
Community Service assignments, including all service hours, must be completed
by the end of the
semester in which the
course is taken. Service hours completed before or after semester the course is
assigned
will not be
considered part of the assigned Community Service course.

Hours
must be logged accurately and neatly on the record sheet. Include a
signature by the
supervisor and attach a business card or flyer from the
organization/event. You may also
obtain a formal letter thanking you for your
service on letterhead
of the organization.
·
Logging
hours cannot be the only form of documentation for this course.
·
You
may not earn money or class credit for your hours.
·
Hours
may be completed at community organizations and/or for an
individual.
·
Documentation
must meet the requirements set by your ES
·
A
plan of action must be created with your ES prior to the semester starting
·
Remember
that it is a semester course and there must be enough time, documentation and
work completed
to
earn credit for a full semester
Important: Make a copy of the completed CSH forms/documentation for your records.
