Community Service Course

·         Students may use this to fulfill a life skill requirement

·         Must be a volunteer situation

·         Students need to have a plan of action before starting a community service course.

·         ESs need to help students with their plan of action

·         If it is a onetime thing, it will not count as a course. (one day of volunteer work)

·         If it is a onetime thing, the ES and the student will need to see where that can be added as an enhancement to a course they are already taking

·         The course must have documentations to demonstrate that the student has new learning every month.

Ways to document new learning.

·         Time log ( for part of the documentation)

·         Written journal

·         Essay about:

o    what was learned

o   people they interviewed

o   describing their task

o   reason behind volunteering

o   talk about the project they are working on

o   population they are working with

o   Who is benefitting from them volunteering

o   Explaining the task they are doing

o   Community they are working in

·         Pictures to document what they are doing. (Pictures still need written information)

Remember this is not work experience and no student should use their job as community service course.
