School and Community

Sky Mountain Charter School(SMCS)  is in the process of  obtaining their WASC accreditation for a  California public charter school.  SMCS was approved as an independent study charter by the California Department of Education in 2007. The school currently serves a widely diverse population of nearly 1000 K-12 students in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Indio, Orange, Kern and Riverside counties. Parent’s work with a California credentialed teacher to develop individualized learning opportunities by: choosing home-based or community based instruction, select individualized curriculum based on learning style and functioning grade level, providing materials, resources and supportive instruction, promoting real-life context-based learning.  High school students are encouraged to concurrently attend courses at local community colleges and/or participate in apprenticeship opportunities with community businesses and Regional Occupational Programs (ROP).Our Educational Specialists are highly trained, No Child Left Behind certified credentialed professionals and are available to students as needed in home-based and independent study learning environments.
