Dear Families,

As you know the PFT or Physical Fitness Test is coming up and we’ve set a date so that you can mark your calendars and prepare for it.  It will be administered at 10:30am on Thursday, March 18th, 2010 at Jesse Turner Park, 15556 Summit Ave. CA.

From the 15 fwy: Exit Summit Ave and go East. Turn left onto Summit (the freeway drops you onto Beech Ave).  You will pass the park on the left, turn left onto Knox Ave.  There is a parking lot close to Knox Ave. and the track; we will meet on the grass near there.

All students in grades 5th, 7th and 9th grade are required to take the test.  This includes students with any physical handicaps. They will be required to participate in as much as they physically are capable of handling.

The PFT has three components: aerobic capacity; body composition; and muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility.  We have to do the following five exercises: (the following five exercises are a required part of the PFT)

1.     Aerobic Capacity: Mile Run/Walk

2.     Body Composition: Height and Weight measured and recorded

3.     Abdominal Strength and Endurance: Curl-ups

4.     Trunk Extensor and Flexibility: Trunk Lifts

5.     Upper Body Strength and Flexibility: Push-ups

6.     Overall Flexibility: Shoulder Stretch

Please refer to the following website for more information on how each of these components are done properly; http://www.fitnessgram.net/home/

As parents, you can use the student’s PE time to have them practice these exercises so that they are able to complete the test. Please let your ES know if you need any help with anything related to this test.

Thank you so much for your time and good luck!  J
